NEW! Invisible Physical Defense spf30

Want to know the most important step of your skin care regime?  Well, it’s  sunscreen.  Not only is it your number 1 age management step but a skin cancer prevention mitigator! It is essential to wear on those bright sunny days and we have been educated to wear even on those cloudy days where we are unknowingly exposed to harmful, skin ageing rays. Recently it has been discovered that Blue light from our devices can penetrate our skin and cause our skin to develop uneven pigment and also accelerate the ageing process.

Here is a quick 101 on the sun and its damaging rays:

UVA (think A for ageing) – This ray can travel through your windows in your home, car or office and travels deep into the skin where collagen and elastic are found and in turn damaged.

UVB (think B for burning) – This ray is out in full force from 10-3pm though it varies depending on the time of year.  This high energy ray burns our skin and causes our skin to tan.  Never be under the impression a tan is healthy as it is a hallmark of damage that has been inflicted on your skin.

Blue Light – Found in the visible light spectrum of the sun and also emitted from devices.  This is a long reaching ray which travels deeply into the skin damaging the skin cells along with collagen and elastin.

So, with all this awareness, why do we still try and dodge this skin critical step? Well, it mostly comes down to not liking the solution.

We’ve all experienced, thick, gluggy sunscreens that leave a chalky white wash of colour on the skin. If only we had a sunscreen that was invisible and ANY skin tone or type could use. Well, now we do. Introducing Dermalogica’s NEW Invisible Physical Defense SPF30

Invisible Physical Defense SPF30 is a physical sunscreen like no other. Physical sunscreens use minerals, such as Zinc Oxide, that sit on the skin and reflect away UV rays. Unfortunately, the minerals don’t blend easily, which is why we’re left with the white residue.

Dermalogica’s NEW Invisible Physical Defense SPF30 uses a unique ultra-sheer Zinc Oxide. Ultra-fine particles of Zinc Oxide, carried by plant-based oils, make for a physical sunscreen that’s invisible and blends to all skin tones. This means that EVERYONE can use it. Being a physical sunscreen and with adding soothing ingredients, it’s also a good option for sensitive skins.

What’s more, Invisible Physical Defense SPF30 provides protection against blue light, a form of radiation emitted from our everyday smart devices. Whilst research is ongoing, we know this poses a new threat to the health and age of our skin.

Along with the advanced ultra-sheer Zinc Oxide, Invisible Physical Defense SPF30 contains:

·         Hyaluronic Acid – Known to dramatically increase moisture, plumpness and minimise fine lines.

·         Bioactive Mushroom Complex – Derived from the Himalayas, this mushroom duo serves to soothe, treat UV related redness and dryness.

·          Matcha Green Tea – A super potent antioxidant that protects against the harmful effects of UV and blue light.

·         Argan Oil, Vitamin E and Chamomile – Work together to protect, soothe and nourish the skin.

Invisible Physical Defense SPF30 is your last step in your skincare regimen in the morning. A teaspoon amount is recommended for the face, neck and ears. Layer over one of Dermalogica’s Daily Skin Health moisturisers. Choose Active Moist for an oiler skin; Skin Smoothing Cream for a combination/dehydrated skin, and Intensive Moisture Balance for a drier and/or mature skin.

New Dermalogica Retinol Clearing Oil

The Gold Standard Antidote to Acne and Ageing

Not only are adult breakouts on the rise but early signs of ageing are too. Why is this?
Let’s take a look at our modern world and current economic climate! It’s taking its toll and it’s reflecting in the condition of the skin of both men and women. Chronic stress and consequential hormonal imbalances lead to an increase in oil production, an increase in sensitivity and a delayed healing response. In short, a recipe for acne and ageing.

The link between Acne and Ageing
Not only is the threat of the breakouts and signs of aging real, as adults, we’re more prone to post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, i.e. that unsightly mark on the skin once the breakout has cleared. This marking adds years to our perceived age and can often outstay its predecessor breakout. What many people are not aware of is that in the breakouts healing and clearing process the immune cells break through and degrade our skin plumping collagen and can leave some individuals with crater scaring. This demonstrates that acne as an adult is also a premature ageing condition. As stress is a driver of our acne, the hormone Cortisol which is released from the Adrenal glands when we are stressed, accelerates the ageing process and increases pigment production in skin. It also slows healing time of the breakouts.

NEW Retinol Clearing Oil – A Dermalogica First
Experts in skin, Dermalogica has created a solution that tackles both acne and premature skin ageing. The NEW Retinol Clearing Oil joins its Active Clearing line, a full system of skincare that specifically addresses the challenges of adult breakouts.

Together for the first time, Retinol Clearing Oil combines the gold standard powers of Retinol and Salicylic Acid. Hailed as one of the most results driven ingredients to treat accelerated skin ageing, Retinol supercharges cell renewal and improve skin firmness. Salicylic Acid, on the other hand, is known for its ability to treat breakouts – it deep cleans and decongests pores, while reducing redness.

What’s also stand out, is that these two potent actives are housed in a soothing oil that releases them over time to minimise irritation, while nourishing the skin. The blend of Jojoba, Rosehip Seed, and Argan Oils also help to rebuild the strength of the skin and speed up healing.

Retinol Clearing Oil should be used at night-time. Fill dropper and smooth 6 – 10 drops of the oil over your skin. Sunscreen is essential when using ingredients that renew and exfoliate the skin. Dermalogica’s Invisible Physical Defense SPF30 can be used on all skins and is ideal for anyone experiencing sensitivity from breakouts.

Retinol Clearing Oil is clinically proven to renew skin overnight, delivering clearer skin and reducing the signs of premature ageing within seven days. Get a head start on clearer, younger looking skin. Shop this product online or at any of our 12 salon locations

Top causes behind dry skin

Dry skin is more than dehydration. Here’s everything you need to know!

  • People with dry skin naturally lack a strong lipid barrier, which leads to water loss and dehydration.
  • Knowing what causes truly dry skin will give you more than relief – it will allow you to treat dry skin at the source.

If you have dry skin, you likely seek out ultra-moisturizing products for quick relief. But did you know that dry skin needs more than just hydration?

The latest scientific research shows that healthy skin starts with the right balance of a strong lipid barrier, hydration, and an optimal microbiome (aka microbial environment). If any of these factors are imbalanced, skin can look and feel compromised. People with truly dry (alipoid) skin naturally lack a strong lipid barrier; they don’t have enough lipids to maintain optimal skin health.

Let’s take a closer look at the lipid barrier – and how you can help strengthen yours for healthy, hydrated skin.

What is the lipid barrier?
Think of lipids as the “mortar” between your skin’s “bricks”, or corneocytes. This lipid barrier is found in the stratum corneum (your outermost layer of skin), and it’s our first line of defense against internal and external factors that can affect skin dryness. A strong lipid barrier helps prevent excess water loss and keeps out external forms of assault like UV radiation, heat and cold, and environmental irritants.

what is a chemical peel?

What happens when skin’s lipid barrier is compromised?
When skin’s lipid barrier is weakened, the first thing that happens is water loss, a.k.a. dehydration. This results in flakiness, dryness, dullness and fine dehydration lines. At this point, skin is more susceptible to environmental assault and signs of premature ageing.

What else causes a weak lipid barrier?
If you have dry skin, your skin naturally lacks a strong lipid barrier – but there are other contributing factors that can influence barrier performance, too. Paying attention to them can help you better manage dry skin.

  1. Ageing depletes skin’s natural lipids over time.
  2. Seasonal changes like low temperature and low humidity can result in decreased lipids and increased sensitivity.
  3. Cleansing, over-exfoliating and certain skin care ingredients – including alcohol, acetone, and harsh surfactants – can damage the skin barrier.
  4. Dietary changes, including reduced fat consumption, can result in lipid deficiency.
  5. Stress, UV exposure and some diseases can also damage the skin barrier or delay recovery.

What does dry skin need?
For all the complex factors that can influence dry skin and lipid barrier recovery, the solution is relatively simple: focus your skin care regimen around products that nourish your lipid barrier. Look for products that are rich in plant oils and contain ingredients like ceramides, fatty acids (e.g., Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Myristic Acid), and sterols.

Dermalogica’s Intensive Moisture Balance nourishes 10 layers deep to restore the skin’s lipid barrier while Intensive Moisture Cleanser removes even long-wear make-up while nourishing skin. Plus, they’re both formulated with a state-of-the-art BioReplenish Complex™, which works on a molecular level to deliver a proven combination of key barrier lipids that help enhance skin’s natural resilience and support barrier recovery.
